I <3 Joss Whedon

July 20th, 2008

This week something wonderful happened on the internets.  Joss Whedon released the first three mini episodes of a heart-felt, utterly wonderful, low budget musical progect called Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.  It stars Neil Patrick Harris (who I am thoroughly enjoying in his new-found coolness) as Dr. Horrible, a villian who is struggling to be taken seriously by the Evil League of Evil.  Things get worse when is arch nemesis Captain Hammer (played brilliantly by Nathan Fillion) steals the girl that Dr. Horrible has a major crush on.  Hurry up and watch the three episodes at drhorrible.com, because they’ll be taken off the internet at 12:00 Eastern tonight!

Fears

July 2nd, 2008

It’s  a distinct possiblity at this point that my husband and I will be moving to London in the next few months.  If they let us into the country, that is.  From what I’ve heard, they’re being quite selective about immigrants lately.  But I can’t blame them - it’s an island after all.

It took a long time for us to come to the final decision to go.  There are a lot of uncertainties and it will certainly be a leap of faith.  But aside from the worry of living day to day and finding a good apartment, I’ve made a list of other things that scare me about moving to London.  Since they are largely fictitious in nature, though, at least I can look at this this and know that these things will never affect me.

1.  the rage virus, and thus also fast zombies

2.  daleks

3.  cybermen

4.  ghosts (because according to Most Haunted, every building in the UK is haunted)

5.  falling through the cracks and ending up in the London Below

6.  what happened in Children of Men

7.  a community of cannibals descended from Victorian railway workers that lurk in abandoned Tube stations (as in Death Line)

8.  British peanut butter and black currant Skittles (sadly, not fictitious and very, very bad)

(Update) 9.  Amy Winehouse

epic fail

*Sigh* Blog, I don’t know why I neglect you so. I didn’t write about our London trip on you - instead I documented it through my London collection on Flickr. I didn’t make anything to submit to Crammed Organisms, so no posts for that. I promise to make more things, I really do. There are lots of summer blockbusters coming out soon, so that will give me something to write about. I’m sorry bloggy blog!  Please don’t hate me!

We’re in London!

March 16th, 2008

Hooray!  This is why I haven’t posted all week - I’ve been getting ready for this trip.  Yesterday and today have been a mixture of raw nerves and exhaustion, but we’re here.  And extremely jet-lagged.  It’s only 6 PM here, but I think we’re going to go to bed.  We both almost feel asleep in our pizza at the Italian restaurant we ate at.  More on our flight, our awesome flat, and awesome neighborhood tomorrow!

Crammed Organisms - a St. Louis area plush show!

March 4th, 2008

Wow - I had no idea that this was happening! Crammed Organisms is calling out for artists all over the world to submit their plushie creations for this show. The show is going to be June 6, 13, 20, and 27, and applications have to be in by March 29. Dan and I are going to be out of town from March 15 through the 29, so I’ve got to get cracking. The theme is “Fairy-Folk-Fable”, so I’m going to make some awesome plush sasquatches. Maybe a few other cryptids. They’re also accepting visual art and written pieces, so if you create at all, definitely enter! I’ll update the blog with my plushie progress!

Farewell, Gary Gygax

Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, passed away today. I’m going to go home and paint my 20-sided die black in his honor.

Jovovich-Hawk for Target

March 2nd, 2008

Hooray! Jovovich-Hawk for Target arrived today. Like Subspace, I’m a huge Milla Jovovich fan. Dan was very disappointed, though when I told him that the collection wouldn’t include zombie-fighting leather chaps and hot pants.

I have been really excited about this collection, after months and months of dark dresses with black tights. I’m really impressed - this collection is very Art Nouveau-in-the-seventies inspired, with a bit of 50’s retro thrown in. It all looks very well made. My only gripe is that the dresses are so cute, but so incredibly short and sheer.

I got the two shirts above. I’ve been on the lookout for a blousy white shirt to wear under a shrunken vest. And I just couldn’t resist the black and cream chevron top. Way too cool. I really like several other pieces in the collection, but I think I’ll wait and snag them when they go on sale.

Yay! My first post!

Hopefully I’ll update more than I did on my last blog.
